Shadow Day at the Ikšķile Municipality Administration

Shadow Day is a globally recognised and acclaimed Junior Achievement career education programme for students. On 13 February, Shadow Day was also attended by students from various schools at the Ikšķile Municipality Administration. The students had an opportunity to gain insight into the municipality’s daily work, become better acquainted with legislation, and learn about the employees’ professional duties.

At the beginning of Shadow Day, the students gathered in the council chamber, where they were addressed by Indulis Trapiņš, Chairman of the Municipal Council. He emphasised that the municipality’s task is to care for its residents and promote the development of the municipality. “Your main job is to study, gain knowledge and, at the same time, understand what you would like to become and how you want to shape your life in the future,” said Mr Trapiņš. “It is a pleasure to see you here. Today, we will try to give you an idea of working in the municipality while introducing you to representatives of various professions. Perhaps it is precisely on Shadow Day that you will develop a deeper interest in politics, economics, jurisprudence or some other field.” The Chairman encouraged the students to be active and ask questions of interest to them. Following the Chairman’s address, the participants of Shadow Day had a group photograph taken.
During Shadow Day, the students followed the work of the Chairman of the Municipal Council, the Deputy Chairman, the Executive Director, the public relations specialist and the youth affairs specialist.

Public relations specialist Laura Dūša views Shadow Day positively: “An event of this kind gives students an opportunity to gain insight into the daily work of municipal specialists and their actual duties, as well as to form an understanding of the municipality’s functions. During Shadow Day, together with the students, we discussed issues related not only to public relations but also to the municipality as a whole.”
