Exhibition "The Councillor’s Bookshelf"

The exhibition “The Councillor’s Bookshelf” is on display at Rauna Library from 2 March to 2 April. It introduces visitors to the reading experiences of the councillors of the Smiltene Municipality Council and to the books that have held special significance in their lives.

The exhibition continues the initiative “The Councillor’s Bookshelf” launched by Smiltene Library, in which the councillors of the Smiltene Municipality Council were invited to share their everyday reading habits, values and relationship with books.

The exhibition features stories submitted by the councillors about books that are meaningful to them, photographs, as well as books they have recommended or donated. The materials offer a glimpse of the councillors beyond their daily agendas and draft decisions—as readers and participants in cultural life.

The “The Councillor’s Bookshelf” project is part of the Latvian National Library’s programme of events “500 Years of the Latvian Book”, whose aim is to strengthen the tradition of reading books and promote understanding of the value of reading in society.
