Young art enthusiasts, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters—join us for Family Day at the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE! We will explore works from the exhibition "The Snow Melts. Japanese Art", which will inspire creative activities and conversations.

At the beginning of the day, families with children, accompanied by a museum educator, will explore the exhibition “The Snow Melts. Japanese Art”, paying attention to ukiyo-e woodblock prints, lacquerware and ceramics. During the discussions, we will try to identify the rituals depicted in the exhibition’s works and their characteristic activities, symbols and objects, as well as understand why rituals are significant in Japanese culture. We will examine how the works of art reveal the connection between rituals, the seasons, everyday life and celebrations.

The session will continue with a creative workshop, where participants will create their own works inspired by what they have seen, focusing on one of the ritual practices featured in the exhibition—Hanami. At the workshop, participants will be able to choose one of two creative techniques that can symbolically reflect this spring ritual, as well as work freely and share their experiences of the creative process.
