The Baltic Pearl Festival
The Baltic Pearl is one of the oldest film festivals in the Baltic states—it was launched in 1993 and is considered the largest and most significant film event in Latvia. Initially, it also had a competition programme, a jury, and awards, but since 2004 the Baltic Pearl has abandoned these, becoming, in terms of format, a “festival of festivals”—the programme highlights films awarded at the largest international film forums, introduces new personalities in European cinema, and offers the opportunity to see restored cinematic masterpieces in the “World Cinema Classics” programme.
Every year, the festival organises seminars and masterclasses for professionals and film enthusiasts from the Baltic and Eastern European countries. The festival screenings will take place at Splendid Palace Cinema from 21 September to 28 September. This year’s programme features an extensive selection of films in various genres in their original languages, with simultaneous interpretation into Latvian and Russian. Tickets can be purchased from Biļešu Serviss starting 19 August.
