Words of Light for Latvia
Marking the day of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, on the evenings of November 18, 19, and 20, 2021, from 6:00 PM, an audiovisual installation “Words of Light for Latvia” will be on display.
On the afternoon of November 18, 1918, an independent Latvian state was proclaimed during a solemn session in the premises of what is now the Latvian National Theatre. Thanks to this event, this year we will celebrate the 103rd birthday of the Latvian state, and on the 78th anniversary of Latvia, the then-president Guntis Ulmanis spoke meaningful words – “This chilly November evening is a historic moment that unites us in those emotions, in that uplift and spirit that the people of Latvia have perceived while celebrating the anniversaries of their state in years of free and independent Latvia. This evening testifies to our nation's faith, our nation's unbreakable will and capability, for it is only thanks to this that Latvians have been able to preserve the consciousness of their state's necessity and honorably maintain the traditions of a free state.”
These words are energy, energy is light, light for the people and light for our land, therefore continuing the traditions, this year in the city of Dobele, an installation – “Words of Light for Latvia” will be created. An event that resonated not only in the hearts of city dwellers and visitors but across Latvia. An event that received recognition from industry professionals, resulting in the receipt of the Latvian Event Forum Excellence Award as the “Outstanding In-Person Event of 2020 During the COVID Restrictions.”
This year, “Words of Light for Latvia” returns on the evenings of November 18, 19, and 20, 2021, from 6:00 PM to celebrate Latvia's birthday. With the audiovisual installation “Words of Light for Latvia”, we aim to convey a sense of patriotism and unity to every visitor and hope that each will take a little of this feeling with them. The installation will be viewable from the area adjacent to the ruins of Dobele's Livonian Order Castle, as well as at the Dobele Liberation Monument, where residents can lay candles or flowers to mark Latvia's birthday. The third part of the sensation walk cycle “Strength of Ancestors” will also still be on display.
