Information for Coastal Fishermen on Recording Fishing Data in the Ministry of Agriculture’s State Information System LZIKIS

The Ministry of Agriculture invites all relevant fishermen to apply for access to LZIKIS in a timely manner and to participate more actively in testing the system so that coastal fishing log data can be recorded electronically in accordance with the requirements of the fishing regulations. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the LZIKIS test environment is already available and will operate until 31 December of this year.

The Ministry of Agriculture has previously provided information on amendments to the fishing regulations, including those concerning commercial fishing in inland waters, commercial fishing in territorial waters and the waters of the exclusive economic zone, as well as the exercise of fishing rights in private waters, which entered into force on 1 July of this year. Amendments to Cabinet Regulation No. 296 of 2 May 2007, “Regulations Regarding Commercial Fishing in Territorial Waters and the Waters of the Exclusive Economic Zone”, require fishermen fishing in coastal waters to enter catch data electronically into the information system “Integrated Latvian Fisheries Information and Control System” (LZIKIS). This requirement enters into force on 1 January 2021 with regard to commercial fishing and on 1 January 2023 with regard to subsistence fishing.

Information on registering a new user and entering coastal fishing log data into the system is available in the instructions attached. Please disseminate them, as far as possible, among coastal fishermen and the persons responsible at your authority/institution/association. In the near future, this information will also be published on the Ministry of Agriculture’s website under “Fisheries”/“News”.

At the same time, we would like to point out that the Ministry will continue to provide technical consultations to system users and, as far as possible, participate in information events organised by the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre on the issues mentioned above.
