On Tuesday, 6 April, the municipal company “Rīgas ūdens” began constructing sewerage networks along the section from the sewerage pumping station at Brīvības gatve 433 to the vicinity of the Baložkalns dune in Berģi.These construction works will also require traffic restrictions, which will particularly affect entry into Riga. According to the Riga City Council’s Transport Department, from 6 April to 20 May, changes to traffic arrangements will be introduced on three sections of Brīvības gatve due to water-supply and sewerage network construction works. Vehicle traffic will be restricted in the direction from the city centre near the turn-off to Berģi; restrictions will also be introduced in the direction towards the city centre near the junction of Jaunciema gatve and Brīvības gatve, as well as along a 140-metre section beyond the “Open-Air Museum” bus stop. Drivers are asked to remain alert and follow the changes to the traffic arrangements.
The expansion of the water-supply and sewerage networks in Berģi is part of the “Development of Water Management in Riga, Phase 5” project supported by the European Union (EU) Cohesion Fund. During its implementation, the project is intended to provide opportunities to connect to water-supply and sewerage systems in the north-western part of Imanta, the southern part of Berģi (within the administrative boundaries of Riga), and Beberbeķi.
The aim of this project is to develop and improve the quality of water-supply and sewerage services by providing the aforementioned neighbourhoods with opportunities to connect to the centralised systems of SIA “Rīgas ūdens”. The total cost of the project is €26,006,448, including €9,932,725 in co-financing from the EU Cohesion Fund. The remaining funding will be covered from the resources of SIA “Rīgas ūdens”. The deadline for completion of the project is 31 December 2023. Construction works in Berģi began as early as the beginning of December.
