Education Council in Līgatne Municipality

Since 2018, a large-scale reform of the education system has been under way in Līgatne Municipality to create a competitive and modern educational environment. Changes aimed at ensuring quality education have taken place in the general education institutions of Līgatne Municipality: Līgatne Secondary School now operates in a single building, as do the “Zvaniņi” preschool education institution in Augšlīgatne and the preschool education institution in Līgatne; the New Primary School in Augšlīgatne has successfully begun operating and received positive feedback from parents.

On 23 August 2018, the Līgatne Municipality Education Council was established. It comprises the heads of all institutions involved in the education system of Līgatne Municipality, and education-sector experts are also invited to participate in its work. The Education Council, much like an “excellent umbrella”, ensures cooperation in resolving education-related issues.

Having assessed the current situation and conducted a factual analysis, the Education Council formulated a clear vision for the development of education in Līgatne, based on three core values: attitude, safety and opportunities for personal growth. Since the heads and methodologists of the institutions involved in Līgatne Municipality’s education system work together on the council, the exchange of information about the abilities and needs of specific students is ensured, problem situations are resolved jointly, and students’ individual talents can be developed more successfully. The council prepares proposals related to the provision of educational functions and submits them to the Līgatne Municipality Council for further progress towards achieving its objectives.

The adopted Code of Ethics and Values for employees of Līgatne Municipality’s education system is a valuable contribution that will help strengthen the spirit of community and create an open, supportive working environment characterized by respect and responsibility in every institution of Līgatne Municipality’s education system.

Within the framework of the Education Council, a methodological association of primary school teachers operates in Līgatne Municipality. It includes primary school teachers from general education institutions and teachers of five- and six-year-old learners at preschool education institutions.

Very soon, in February, the Education Council will begin developing Līgatne Municipality’s education strategy in order to put these values into practice in its daily work and clarify what “quality education” means in every institution involved in the education system.

Together with education-sector experts, the Līgatne Municipality Education Council is working to establish a unified system and continuity in learning content and approaches to learning at all levels of children’s and young people’s formal and non-formal education.
