As previously reported, on 2 June Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš announced that there would be changes to the composition of the Cabinet, following an agreement on the government's main priorities and future cooperation.
Marija Golubeva was approved as Minister of the Interior. Since 2018, she has been a member of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia and Deputy Secretary of the Saeima. Golubeva holds a doctoral degree in history from the University of Cambridge, a master's degree in history from Central European University, and a bachelor's degree in English philology from the University of Latvia.
Anita Muižniece will henceforth lead the Ministry of Education and Science. Until now, she had been a member of the 13th Saeima and had served as Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science. A. Muižniece had also worked as a teacher for several years. The minister holds a master's degree in education sciences and a bachelor's degree in pedagogy from the University of Latvia, as well as first-level higher education in business administration from the Rīga International School of Economics and Business Administration.
At its extraordinary sitting on 3 June, the Saeima also expressed its confidence in Minister of Welfare Gatis Eglītis, who had previously served as a member of the 13th Saeima of Latvia and as chair of the Subcommittee on Financial Sector Supervision of the Budget and Finance (Tax) Committee. G. Eglītis holds a master's degree in international relations from the Vienna School of International Studies and has also obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration and economics from the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
