Annual Poetry Competition for Children and Teenagers “Garā pupa” Announced
The Ascendum association and the Latvian Council for Children’s and Youth Literature (LBJLP) have announced a poetry competition inviting children and teenagers from all over Latvia to participate with their own works. Poems may be submitted to the competition until 20 May.
The organisers state that the competition has no specific theme, inviting children and young people to observe, think and express themselves and the world around them in words. The best works will be published in the annual poetry collection for children "Garā pupa 2021", which will be released in September during Poetry Days. The authors will receive a copy of the book and surprise prizes. After a lengthy interruption, the publication of the annual poetry collection for children "Garā pupa" was resumed by the Ascendum association and the LBJLP. This will be the eighth renewed edition of "Garā pupa", and this year’s publication will be illustrated by the artist N. Ozols.
This year, too, the children’s works will be judged by the poet I. Zandere, editor of "Garā pupa", with the assistance of well-known figures from the worlds of culture and media, who will award poems a special mark of distinction—"Outstanding Pupa".
Poems must be submitted electronically by 20 May to the email address garapupa2021@gmail.com with the subject line "Garā pupa competition". The email must include the author’s first name, surname, school and class, as well as contact information: an email address and telephone number.
