Exhibition “The Dark Season”

On 18 November, Sindija Mačtama’s solo exhibition “THE DARK SEASON” opened at the Daugava Museum. The exhibition’s central theme is close to the Latvian soul: through artworks created using digital and traditional media techniques, the artist invites visitors to look at two themes on three levels (the underworld, the earth, and the heavens): the mythical beings inhabiting them (lietuvēni, devils, and others), and the most widespread groups of budēļi/ķekatas masks. These are two themes that came to the fore in the past precisely during the dark season—from Mārtiņi to Meteņi. This is also the period during which the exhibition will be open to visitors at the Daugava Museum.
