Opening of the Exhibition “366 – Daily Art”
Commencing the series of events for the 90th anniversary of poet and translator Ludmila Azarova, a special exhibition will be opened on March 1st at 2:00 PM at the Ojārs Vācietis Museum, where family and generations meet through the museum. Ludmila Azarova and Ojārs Vācietis' granddaughter, artist Marta Anderson from Scotland, has sent an exhibition – a collection of drawings titled “366 – Daily Art”.
Marta Anderson's exhibition is a form of diary. “The year 2024 began with a resolution – to draw every day,” says Marta. Over 366 days, 374 cards were created, rich with emotions – admiration, enthusiasm, humor, as well as slow contemplation and leisureliness. In them, inanimate objects are personified, while human figures merge with objects. “Paradox and parable, at the same time minimalism and visualization of thought, which unraveling can become a game for each visitor of the exhibition: to guess, to play along, to think, and to view the world through the prism of humor,” says exhibition curator Dace Micāne-Zālīte.
“The sparkling and satirical tone of grandparents Ludmila and Ojārs' poetry, sharp vision and smile on things, the world order and people have been inherited in the artistic handwriting of their granddaughter,” adds Zālīte. “Now the marathon “366 – Daily Art” has traveled from Scotland to the homes of grandparents Ojārs and Ludmila Vācietis.”
Alongside the exhibition, a gift “Family Tree”, a double portrait “Ludmila and Ojārs Vācietis”, has also arrived at the museum, which is Marta Anderson's gift to the museum for Ludmila Azarova's 90th anniversary.
The exhibition is open from March 1st to May 6th.
The exhibition is one of two international exhibitions being developed at the Ojārs Vācietis Museum in collaboration with Latvian diaspora artists. In the summer, a sculpture exhibition “Rebirth” by metal artist Gints Grinbergs (USA, Boston) is expected.
