The “Seni Cup 2016” mini-football tournament for people with special needs will be held in Latvia for the tenth consecutive year

On 26 and 27 May, Staicele will host the year’s most eagerly awaited sporting event for people with special needs—the “Seni Cup 2016” mini-football tournament, organised by SIA “TZMO Latvija” in cooperation with the Latvian Football Federation (LFF). Teams from all over Latvia will gather at the tournament to compete for the opportunity to represent Latvia at the final tournament in Poland.
This year’s anniversary tournament will feature 15 teams, including the champions of the past two years: the Zemgale branch “Ziedkalne” and Latgale’s “Mēmele”. The winning teams of the national tournament have achieved good results at the tournament final in Poland; in 2014, the Ziedkalne team managed to win the overall competition.
The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) places great value on social responsibility and in recent years has actively begun supporting various social groups. “This year is no exception, so we support the “Seni Cup” tournament taking place at the end of May with tremendous respect and affection, and regard it on exactly the same level as any other professional tournament. We are truly proud that we can help bring a ray of positivity and hope to those people for whom this ray may perhaps not shine so often in their daily lives,” says Renārs Krīgers, head of the LFF Development Department.
“For the fifth year, we have been participating in “Seni Cup” to support a tradition that highlights the role of human willpower and vitality in improving quality of life. We consider this cooperation mutually beneficial: through our participation, we brighten the daily lives of these people, while they, through their determination, set an example that anything is possible. This helps us develop our business so that we can continue supporting social initiatives in the future,” emphasises Rolands Katkevičs, Head of Customer Relations in the Baltic States at SIA “Solaris Bus & Coach Latvia”.
This year’s participants include social care centres (VSAC) from Vidzeme—the “Ropaži” and “Rūja” branches; Latgale—the “Mēmele”, “Veģi” and “Krastiņi” branches; Kurzeme—the “Iļģi”, “Aizvīķi” and “Dundaga” branches; Zemgale—the “Ķīši”, “Ziedkalne”, “Iecava” and “Jelgava” branches; and the Riga branch “Ezerkrasti”. Teams from the municipal healthcare and social care centre “Sloka” and the “Saime Ogre” day centre have also registered to participate in the tournament. The tournament’s opening parade will take place on 26 May this year at 11:30 at the LFF sports complex in Staicele.
Each year, the winners of the national tournament travel to represent Latvia internationally at the “Seni Cup” final tournament in the Polish city of Toruń, which will take place from 6 to 8 July this year. Teams from Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia will participate in the final tournament.
