Tomorrow, Riga Will Be Filled with a Sporting Atmosphere

Tomorrow, Riga will be taken over by the active recreation and sports event “Riga Sports Night”. As every year at the beginning of September, this year too, on 9 September, Riga residents and visitors are warmly invited to learn about various sports, try them out, and find out about the latest developments in healthy living. “Riga Sports Night” will open at 16:00 and continue until midnight. It will be interesting not only for adults, but also for families and children. The programme and latest information about “Riga Sports Night” can most conveniently be found on the official website www.sportanakts.lv

More than forty different federations, committees, unions and associations will participate in the active recreation and sports event “Riga Sports Night”, offering various competitions, demonstrations, open training sessions and contests, which this year will take place for the first time on 11 November Embankment and in the square near the Museum of the Occupation.

For the first time in Riga, international drone races will be held from 16:00 until 22:00 in the square near the Museum of the Occupation. Ten participants from Latvia and Estonia will take part. Meanwhile, during the active recreation and sports event on 11 November Embankment, seven amateur bouts, one super fight and one heavyweight bout will be held in the “Betsafe” ring. During the intervals between bouts, the Golden Glory boxing club, the Baltic Karate Club and kickboxers will demonstrate their skills and abilities.

The square near the Museum of the Occupation will also host the super-final of the fourteenth season of the “Betsafe Latvian Strongman Championship”. Tension, heightened emotions and fierce competition will determine the strongest man of 2017.

Other activities will also be available, offered by dozens of federations, sports organisations and unions, including the Latvian Luge Federation, the Latvian Kendo Federation, the Latvian Mountaineering Union, Inguna Minusa’s Volleyball School, A.R. Sports Studio and others. Visitors will be able to test their skills in archery, try crossminton, box with professional trainers, play volleyball, drive radio-controlled cars and take part in other sporting activities.

Latvian Railways’ “Hear, See, Live” safety zone will also be set up. There, visitors will be able to test their reaction speed with the help of special sound simulators.

During “Riga Sports Night”, visitors will have the opportunity to take part in various contests and win valuable prizes.

The active recreation and sports event will end at midnight, when the baton of the day spent in a sporting spirit will be passed to the organisers of “We Run Riga”, who at 22:00 will be waiting near Akmens Bridge at the starting line for runners in the 5K distance.

The organisers of “Riga Sports Night” invite families with children to participate, as this year, just as in previous years, there will be the LDz Family Sports Trail, where participants can receive small prizes.
