“Young Road Users’ Forum”
On Wednesday, 22 April, the seventh of the 32 first-round competition stages of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” took place in Kuldīga. The Kuldīga Alternative Primary School team “3x3” won convincingly. Its members were Renārs Alševskis, Ritvars Šalme, Gusts Lapiņš, Annija Kārkliņa, Una Raikstiņa, Lillija Kļaviņa and teacher Līga Zeidaka.
Thirteen teams took part in the seventh young cyclists’ competition—the first-round competition of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—in Kuldīga. In the overall standings, the “3x3” team from Kuldīga Alternative Primary School scored 623 points and finished in first place. This team automatically qualifies for the second round and is in contention for the main prize—participation in the European Young Road Users’ Competition in Austria.

10th place: “Little Centres” team from Kuldīga Centre Secondary School; 160 points;
11th place: “Swift Ones” team from Kuldīga Secondary School No. 2; 147 points;
12th place: “Stars” team from Kuldīga Secondary School No. 2; 76 points;
13th place: “Āči” team from Skrunda Secondary School; 64 points.
In the competition, the young cyclists had to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the road traffic regulations, be able to provide first aid, know the structure of a bicycle, and complete a practical cycling course.
The CSDD has been organising the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia for 22 years, in order to engage young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round being held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:
Friday, 24 April, at 11:00 a.m., at Aizkraukle Sports Hall, with educational institutions from the municipalities of Nereta, Jaunjelgava, Pļaviņas, Koknese, Aizkraukle and Skrīveri invited to participate.
Saturday, 25 April, at 11:00 a.m., at the CSDD Daugavpils branch, with teams from the municipalities of Daugavpils and Ilūkste, as well as schools in the city of Daugavpils, invited to participate;
Tuesday, 28 April, at 11:00 a.m., at Krāslava Varavīksne Primary School, with school teams from the municipalities of Krāslava and Dagda invited to participate;
Wednesday, 29 April, at 11:00 a.m., at the Preiļi Municipality Children’s and Youth Sports School, with schools from the municipalities of Aglona, Riebiņi, Līvāni, Preiļi and Vārkava participating.
The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the Latvian final—is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that achieve the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, namely the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3–6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final participating.
To participate in the competition, students must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—come up with a team name, and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation in the competition must be agreed with a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the particular team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by the CSDD. In developing the content of the competition, the CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been the CSDD’s educational-project partner for many years. The competition is implemented by the association “For a Strong Latvia”; it is financed from OCTA funds and supported by the Latvian Automobile and Motorcycling Association.
