“Young Road Users’ Forum” in Aizkraukle
Andrejs Upīts Skrīveri Secondary School’s “Skrīči-1” team wins in Aizkraukle
On Friday, 24 April, the ninth of the 32 first-round stages of the Road Transport Safety Directorate’s (CSDD) “Young Road Users’ Forum” took place in Aizkraukle. This time, the strongest performance came from Andrejs Upīts Skrīveri Secondary School’s team, “Skrīči-1”: Daniels Baumgartens, Renārs Rainers Boļšijs, Kalvis Kalniņš, Sintija Leitāne, Sanija Petroviča, Solvita Katiņa, and teacher Aldis Rakstiņš.
Thirteen teams took part in the ninth young cyclists’ competition—the first-round event of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—in Aizkraukle. With a total of 609 points, first place went to the “Skrīči-1” team from Andrejs Upīts Skrīveri Secondary School. This team automatically advances to the second round—the Latvian final—and will compete for the opportunity to travel to the European Young Road Users’ Competition in Austria. Jānis Straume was the strongest competitor in the individual event.

8th place: “Jautrie braucēji” team from Aizkraukle Primary School; 289 points;
9th place: “Mežonīgās lauvas” team from Aizkraukle Primary School; 250 points;
10th place: “SWAG” team from Aizkraukle Primary School; 248 points;
11th place: “Ugunīgās riepas” team from Aizkraukle Primary School; 209 points;
12th place: “Zibenīgās haizivis” team from Aizkraukle Primary School; 185 points;
13th place: “Metal” team from Aizkraukle Primary School; 125 points.
In the competition, the young cyclists had to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the road traffic regulations, know how to provide first aid, be familiar with the construction of a bicycle, and complete a practical cycling course.
For 22 years, CSDD has organised the “Young Road Users’ Forum” throughout Latvia to engage young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:
Tuesday, 28 April, at 11:00 a.m., at Krāslava Varavīksne Basic School; school teams from Krāslava and Dagda municipalities are invited to participate;
Wednesday, 29 April, at 11:00 a.m., at the Preiļi Municipality Children’s and Youth Sports School; schools from the municipalities of Aglona, Riebiņi, Līvāni, Preiļi, and Vārkava will participate;
Thursday, 30 April, at 11:00 a.m., at the CSDD Madona branch; school teams from the municipalities of Cesvaine, Lubāna, Ērgļi, Madona, and Varakļāni may participate;
Tuesday, 5 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Liepāja A. Pushkin Secondary School No. 2; school teams from the municipalities of Grobiņa, Rucava, Nīca, Priekule, Vaiņode, Durbe, Pāvilosta, and Aizpute are invited to participate;
Wednesday, 6 May, at 11:00 a.m., on the premises of the CSDD Ventspils branch; school teams from the city and municipality of Ventspils will participate.
The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the Latvian final—is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3–6 September, with the winning team from the Latvian final participating.
To take part in the competition, students must have been born between 2003 and 2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—choose a team name, and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation must be approved by a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the particular team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by CSDD. In developing the competition content, CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been CSDD’s partner in educational projects for many years. The competition is conducted by the association “For a Strong Latvia”; it is financed from OCTA funds and supported by the Latvian Automoto Association and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
