“Young Road Users’ Forum” in Riga!

On 22 May 2015, the regional stage of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate’s (CSDD) “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition took place in Riga, at the Biķernieki Complex Sports Base (next to the Riga Motor Museum).

The competition is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Teams from Babīte, Mārupe, Olaine, Ķekava, Salaspils, Garkalne, Ropaži, Mālpils, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Carnikava, Ādaži, Saulkrasti, Baldone, Krimulda, Stopiņi and Sēja municipalities, as well as from schools in the city of Riga, are invited to participate.

We invite media representatives to the CSDD competition for young cyclists, the “Young Road Users’ Forum,” in Riga, outside the office building of the Biķernieki Complex Sports Base. The competition begins at 11:00 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 1:00 p.m.

We remind you that on 10 April, the nationwide marathon of the CSDD’s annual competition for young and aspiring cyclists, the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015,” began. The first-round regional competitions will take place in 32 different towns and cities across Latvia until 27 May, and pupils born in 2003–2005 may register for them.

For the 22nd year, the CSDD has organised a special competition for Latvian pupils aimed at improving their knowledge and skills in road safety. All participants will have to demonstrate their theoretical and practical knowledge of the road traffic regulations, be able to provide first aid, understand the technical structure of a bicycle, and complete various practical bicycle-riding tasks.

As usual, the competition takes place in three stages. The first stage, consisting of 32 competitions in total, is held in all regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:

• Monday, 25 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Rēzekne Secondary School No. 5; teams from the city of Rēzekne and from schools in the municipalities of Viļāni and Rēzekne are invited to participate;

• Tuesday, 26 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ludza Recreation Park; teams from schools in the municipalities of Kārsava, Ludza, Zilupe and Cibla are invited to participate;

• Wednesday, 27 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Gulbene City Stadium; teams from schools in Gulbene Municipality are invited to participate.

The second stage of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the Latvian final—is scheduled for 5–6 June. It will be attended by teams that receive the highest scores in the first-round competition in their region and consist of three boys and three girls. The third stage, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3–6 September. Latvia’s winning final team will participate and compete for the title of the best team in Europe.

To participate in the competition, pupils must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—come up with a team name, and complete the electronic registration form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation in the competition must be approved by a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the specific team and pupils in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by the CSDD. In developing the competition content, the CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been the CSDD’s partner in educational projects for many years. The competition is organised by the association “For a Strong Latvia,” funded from Compulsory Civil Liability Insurance funds, and supported by the Latvian Automobile and Motorcycling Association and the Emergency Medical Service.
