10 special-purpose containers for dog waste installed in Jēkabpils
In response to residents’ complaints and the longstanding
issue related to dog waste, SIA “Jēkabpils pakalpojumi”, the company responsible
for managing the territory of Jēkabpils, has installed 10 special-purpose
containers along various popular walking routes and in popular areas.
The bright yellow special-purpose containers are intended for disposing of dog waste. They are equipped with bags in case a dog owner has forgotten to bring one along during the walk.
Container locations:
8 Draudzības Alley;
Mežaparks, by the pedestrian path (on the Neratas Street side);
Mežaparks, behind the children’s playground opposite the Radži Reservoir;
Mežaparks, by the sports fields;
Pils Park, by the path;
Pils Park, not far from the fountain;
7, 8 and 9 Dolomīta Street;
10. In the courtyard of the apartment buildings on Viestura Street.
SIA “Jēkabpils pakalpojumi” reminds residents that it is the DUTY of every owner to collect their dog’s waste in any public place. Moreover, by ignoring this requirement, a dog owner may get into trouble. In Latvia, this requirement is regulated by Cabinet Regulation No. 266, “Welfare Requirements for the Keeping, Trading and Demonstrating of Domestic (Pet) Animals at Public Exhibitions, as well as for Dog Training”. Section 52.3 of the regulation provides that the owner or keeper of a domestic (pet) animal is required to collect their pet’s excrement within the territory of populated areas.
We also remind you that dog waste is classified as household waste and may be disposed of in any waste bin.
Although supervising and monitoring compliance with the law is a function of the municipal police, we nevertheless urge residents not to remain silent in such situations, but to point it out to the dog owner if they notice that the waste has not been collected.
