Jelgava’s main Christmas tree begins to be decorated
The city’s Christmas tree consists of an 18-metre-high metal structure supporting 33 natural fir trees, whose crown heights range from 3.5 to 6.5 metres. The installation of the tree in Duke Jacob’s Square began as early as mid-November this year because putting up the new decorations—the baubles—is technically more complicated and takes more time, while the number of LED light strings is also greater than in previous years. The tree’s lights will be switched on and delight us from the First Sunday of Advent, 29 November.
On the bridges over the Lielupe and Driksa rivers and on Lielā iela, the November holiday decorations on the lighting poles are gradually being replaced with 3D LED decorations. In total, there will be 74 decorations on every second lighting pole along Lielā iela, up to Dambja iela, while LED curtains will soon be installed in the tree crowns in Duke Jacob’s Square.
As the decorations continue to be installed, the existing cones at the roundabout on Stacijas iela and on Lietuvas šoseja will be adorned with strings of lights. On Driksas iela, the lighting poles along the pedestrian-street section and the “Flower Tree” near the pedestrian bridge will be decorated with flashing LED light strings. On Vecpilsētas iela, “3D Star” decorations of various sizes will light up in the street lamps, along with a Christmas tree decorated with light strings and ornaments. Various other flashing decorations are also being installed on the ground at 47B Dobeles šoseja, 59 Satiksmes iela and in Stacijas Park.
In September and October, light decorations were installed in the urban environment: light nets in Ozolskvērs; “Star Arch with a Ball” decorations on the lighting poles on Rūpniecības iela; and “3D Star” decorations in the trees along Pasta iela in Raiņa Park. LED “Light Ball” decorations were installed in the tree crowns at the intersection of Rīgas iela and Pērnavas iela.
