Jelgava Secure Victory in the Opening Match of the “Spring Cup”

The men’s team secured a victory in the first “Spring Cup” match. Jelgava faced another Optibet Future League club—FS Leevon/Saldus SS. The match ended in a 4–0 victory, with two goals scored in each half. D. Vējkrīgers, A. Deklāvs, R. Bečers and R. Jirgensons were the scorers. The match was played at the Jelgava sports facility on 12 March. Eight Optibet Future League teams are taking part in the “Spring Cup”, divided into two groups. FS Jelgava were placed in Group B together with FS Leevon/Saldus SS, AFA Olaine and Rēzekne FA. At the end of the tournament, the winners and runners-up of each group will face one another to determine the final distribution of the tournament’s medal places.
In addition, the team played a friendly against FK Beitar at the end of the evening. Jelgava’s superiority was reflected in the score, with the match ending 8–1. The scorers were K. Skadmanis, R. Veinbergs, D. Vējkrīgers, R. Jirgensons, K. Sleņģis, A. Janovskis (two goals), while Beitar also scored one own goal.
The team’s next match is scheduled as part of the “Spring Cup” against Rēzekne FA on 19 March at 14:00 at the Jelgava sports facility.
“To begin with, I can say that the players have succeeded in carrying out the pre-season plan and meeting its requirements. It would have been desirable to play another friendly, and the European tour was also missing, as its dates coincided with the players’ examination period.
During pre-season, the decisions made by a couple of players were a negative surprise. However, this has given younger players from the academy an opportunity to prove themselves in the team, and perhaps these academy graduates will be our positive surprises over the course of the season. In conclusion, I can say that the team is at a high level of readiness as it awaits the start of the season.
The aim of the “Spring Cup” is to test our readiness for the season while maintaining our style of play. We worked on our style of play during the friendly matches. Of course, an equally important goal is to win the gold medals. It is also enjoyable to play more matches at home, especially as part of a tournament.”
