A Dog-Walking Area to Be Created in Jūrmala
In response to residents’ suggestions, a well-equipped dog-walking area will be created this year in Sloka, at 37 Ventspils Highway. This will be the first dog-walking area in Jūrmala.
The dog-walking area will cover approximately 1,500 square metres, and the site will be enclosed by a fence. Amenities will be installed in the area, including equipment intended for dog training, which can be supplemented with new devices if necessary.
The construction design documentation is currently being prepared, and the area is scheduled to be built by autumn.
The specific location for creating dog-training areas was proposed by the association “International Union of Canine Breeders” and Jūrmala residents—dog owners. The selected site is not densely populated, so it will not disturb local residents. In addition, the existing infrastructure—lighting, a spacious lawn-covered area, a car park, paved paths, and proximity to public transport—is suitable for creating such an area.
There are already 19 waste bins for dog excrement in the city, and additional bins will be installed this year. They will be placed in the new dog-walking area and in courtyards between apartment buildings:
- at 65 Skolas Street, 6 Engures Street, 63 Skolas Street, and 63A Skolas Street;
- at 62 Raiņa Street and 60 Raiņa Street;
- at 28 Skolas Street and 30 Skolas Street.
Please note that bringing pets onto the beaches and bathing areas of the city of Jūrmala is prohibited!
