Jūrmala MTB Cycling Marathon to Bring Latvia’s Leading Cyclists Together on the Beach
This coming Saturday, 6 October, the Jūrmala MTB Cycling Marathon will traditionally start at Majori Beach, bringing together professional cyclists as well as cycling enthusiasts of all ages from the Riga region and other parts of Latvia. Everyone is invited to test their skills in one of four mountain-bike distances, enjoy the pleasure of spending time together and welcome the autumn season on an active and positive note. Leading Latvian cyclists Emīls Liepiņš, Andžs Flaksis and Dmitrijs Sorokins have also already confirmed their participation in the cycling marathon.
The Jūrmala MTB Cycling Marathon is the only mountain-bike competition in Latvia whose unique course starts and finishes right on the Baltic Sea coast, then continues along the challenging forest trails of Priedaine and, towards the end of the route, over asphalt as well. Licensed athletes will be offered the 47-kilometre Sport MTB distance; the popular People’s MTB distance (47 km) will allow the most competitive participants to start either individually or as part of a team; the vibrant Family MTB distance parade will bring together Latvia’s most active families and groups of friends for a 10-kilometre ride along the beach, while the exciting Children’s Ride (0.3–1 km) will also appeal to the youngest riders of bicycles and balance bikes, aged up to 12.

The Jūrmala MTB Cycling Marathon is not only a high-level competition with a substantial prize fund; it is also a colourful celebration of togetherness for families and cycling enthusiasts of different generations, attracting an ever-growing number of participants every year. Throughout the day, visitors at the event venue will also be able to enjoy a variety of exciting activities: mobile trade stalls, fun attractions, games and creative workshops for children, energetic music performed by DJ Kelly Elly, as well as other entertainment options. In addition, to ensure competitors’ well-being, refreshing Neptunas mineral water will be available at several points along the course, while the technical condition of the bicycles will be carefully monitored by Velo Depo bicycle service. The charismatic event host Lauris Lizbovskis will keep spirits high during the competition, while Latvian Catering Company will satisfy participants’ hunger after the finish.

If you register by 3 October, the entry fee for the Sport and People’s distances is EUR 10, while the fee for the Family and Children’s distances is EUR 5. The registration fee will increase on the day of the competition. The cycling marathon is organised by SIA Alpha Baltic Media in cooperation with the Latvian Cycling Federation, and the City of Jūrmala invites participants to the competition. Prizes for the distance winners will be provided by V-WORKS, ISOSTAR, TORLEY and XS Rotaļlietas. After the finish, each participant will also receive a special commemorative medal.
