On Sunday, 25 September, one of the most eagerly awaited mass sporting events of the autumn season
will once again take place at Majori Beach – the “Jūrmala Sports Festival”. Alongside the running and Nordic walking
competitions, participants and visitors to the sports festival will also be welcomed throughout the day by a variety of
sporting, creative, healthy and educational entertainment activities for adults and children alike.
The “Jūrmala Sports Festival” will take place at Majori Beach for the third consecutive year, and this year it will be even
larger than before. From 8:30 a.m., active recreation enthusiasts from all over Latvia are invited to gather
at Majori Beach, by the Jūrmala Beach Centre, in the section between Kaiju and Ērgļu Streets, where
registration and the distribution of race numbers for the running and Nordic walking distances will begin.
At 10:00 a.m., along with the first starts, visitors to the event will be able to enjoy active recreation by shooting
bows, making and flying kites, testing their balance, shooting basketball free throws,
watching street workout demonstrations, creating henna tattoos, painting stones,
playing sand games and with light boxes, tasting local delicacies, as well as taking part in other exciting
activities and spending the day in an energising sporting atmosphere.

When registering in advance, by 21 September, the entry fee for the 5 km and 10 km running distances is 10
EUR, while the fee for the 21 km and 10 km Nordic walking distances is EUR 5, and the entry fee for the 5 km Nordic walking distance is
EUR 3. As usual, advance registration for the Children’s distance is free of charge for the youngest participants, aged up to 12.
Participation is also free of charge for all pupils in Years 1–12. The registration fee will increase on the day of the competition.
The “Jūrmala Sports Festival” will mark the beginning of Health Month in Jūrmala, during which, from
25 September to 23 October, anyone interested will be able to attend Nordic walking, qigong, beach
fitness, physiotherapy, Nordic walking, yoga and many other classes, take part in art and music
therapy sessions and workshops on healthy lifestyles, as well as undergo preventive health examinations.
In total, more than 70 activities and services will be available during Health Month.
The “Jūrmala Sports Festival” is organised by “Alpha Baltic Sport”, and the City of Jūrmala invites everyone to the festival. An active
and healthy lifestyle is supported by the Galleria Riga shopping centre.
