At present, museums, theatres, restaurants and everything else we visit to relax and escape from the rush of everyday life are closed. It is important to make our everyday lives more interesting, to see what we have not seen before and experience new emotions. So where exactly can we go in our free time when almost all entertainment and recreation venues are closed? The only place that is available now and always is nature.

Let us embrace new emotions, new experiences and new views. Every one of us has so many unseen and unknown places in Latvia. Let us get to know our homeland better, because now is the right time to do so.

Pokaini Forest

Senpokaini, Naudīte Parish

In winter, Pokaini Forest will certainly remind you of a fairy-tale forest from a childhood film. This forest is full of legends. The site is considered sacred, and visitors have also said that they have witnessed anomalous natural phenomena there.

Mazirbe Boat Cemetery

Mazirbe

An interesting place that many of you may not know about. Before the Second World War, there were 48 boats in this boat cemetery; now eight boat skeletons remain. This place may seem somewhat eerie because of the boats, but the truth is that they were left there because border guards tried to restrict fishing and, in the end, did not even allow the boats to be burned, so they simply had to be abandoned.

Līči–Laņģi Cliffs

Liepa, Liepa Parish

A kilometre-long cliff on the left bank of the ancient valley of the Gauja. Caves are rare in Latvia, so this would certainly be a spectacular sight in our homeland. This cave has experienced various landslides, which have formed steep walls 8 m high.

Murjāņi Luge Track

Sēja Municipality

The old Murjāņi track is an interesting site to see, and walking along it will be quite an adventure. This track was built in 1978 and has been very well preserved, surrounded by forest.

Valgunde Buka Deer Farm

Nāburdzīte, Valgunde Parish

This is an excellent place to stop with your loved ones. Before travelling to this place, remember to bring carrots so that you can feed the beautiful forest animals. The farm is home to red deer, fallow deer and mouflon, which have been brought from wildlife parks in England, Austria, Romania and Hungary.

Wishing you bright and beautiful memories!
