The #WhiteFriday charity campaign calls for donations to support fellow members of society
This coming Friday, 4 November, the charity organisation Ziedot.lv, together with the company Mobilly, will hold the nationwide #WhiteFriday donation campaign, which has become a tradition, for the fourth time. This year, too, its aim is to encourage public involvement and raise donations for more than 90 charitable and non-governmental organisations that particularly need financial support to carry out their day-to-day work.
The #WhiteFriday charity campaign began in 2020 as a response to the worldwide shopping frenzy of Black Friday, when its organisers called on the public to enjoy the excitement of donating instead of shopping and to highlight the good deeds carried out by various organisations despite the challenges of everyday life. Their number continues to grow every year, as does the amount of money donated during the campaign, demonstrating people’s desire to help their fellow members of society even in more difficult economic circumstances. Last year, the total amount raised exceeded EUR 84,000, and this year everyone is invited to support both larger and smaller organisations and initiatives that work tirelessly every day for the benefit of society.
“A country cannot exist without civil society becoming involved in solving problems that are important to society. The #WhiteFriday campaign is a wonderful initiative that provides a platform for achieving many different goals that are important to all of us,” comments Rūta Dimanta, head of the organisation Ziedot.lv.
Many important initiatives are implemented only thanks to regular donations from supporters, and although organisations’ needs change along with current developments in social life, the #WhiteFriday campaign makes it possible to direct funds towards specific goals that can be achieved within a relatively short period. While 60 organisations took part in the campaign last year, this year the number has already reached nearly 100. They include Centrs POGA, SOS Mājas jauniešiem, the association “Neklusē”, the “Latvijas humānās palīdzības centrs”, the “Rozā vilciens” charity fund, Centrs “MARTA”, the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the “Dzīvības koks” cancer patient support association, the “Teodors” assistance dog association, the “Dardedze” centre, “Gribu palīdzēt bēgļiem”, the “Sofi” charity fund and many others.
“It is a genuine pleasure that this year, too, together with Ziedot.lv, we can do good deeds and encourage all the people of Latvia to do the same. This period is quite difficult and full of challenges for all of us, yet the ever-growing number of positive charity projects and various initiatives encourages us not to give up and to continue spreading good by helping those for whom our support is now more important than ever. That is precisely why we would like to invite every resident of Latvia to donate to a charity or non-governmental organisation whose goals may differ, but whose desire is the same—to build a better society in Latvia,” comments Ģirts Slaviņš, head of Mobilly.
