The #WhiteFriday charity campaign will once again collect donations for fellow citizens
This month, the charity organisation Ziedot.lv and the Mobilly platform are joining forces for the third time to carry out the #WhiteFriday donation campaign, whose aim is to encourage public involvement in supporting the daily work of various charitable and non-governmental organisations. Continuing the successful tradition that was started, the campaign will take place on Friday, 5 November, encouraging the public to donate to more than 60 local organisations that currently particularly need financial support.
The #WhiteFriday campaign began in 2020 as a response to the worldwide Black Friday shopping frenzy, when its organisers first encouraged people to enjoy the real thrill of donating instead of shopping and to highlight the good work carried out by various local organisations despite the challenges of everyday life. Both donors and participating organisations have positively assessed the campaigns held previously, noting that they have the potential to grow increasingly larger in scale. Last year, the amount raised exceeded EUR 35,000, and this time, too, people will be encouraged to support both larger and smaller organisations.
“The aim of the #WhiteFriday charity campaign is to promote trust in civil society organisations and involve the public in solving common problems. The willingness to share one’s private resources for the common good is a sign of citizens’ maturity and responsibility. Regular donations are invaluable in ensuring the daily operations of charitable and non-governmental organisations, so we sincerely wish to invite people once again to take part in the campaign, making donating a regular habit in everyone’s daily life. We believe—and can confidently say—that people have the power!” comments Rūta Dimanta, head of the organisation Ziedot.lv.
To launch the #WhiteFriday campaign, a public online discussion will also be held this Wednesday, 3 November, at 7:00 p.m. on Mobilly’s Facebook page. During the discussion, representatives of the organisations “Dzīvnieku brīvība”, Ziedot.lv and “Satori”, as well as members of the volunteer movement #vieglipalīdzēt, will jointly seek to determine how significant the impact of small donations is in promoting impressive change and how the culture of donating in Latvia has changed in recent years. The aim of the discussion is to encourage the public to do good even when opportunities to provide support are often limited, because, as the organisations’ experience to date shows, even a small financial donation can help reduce the amount of time animals spend in cages, provide social assistance, or offer much-needed support to an initiative in the cultural sector.
“We are pleased that, even during this difficult time for everyone, the number of organisations and positive initiatives continues to grow—since the previous campaign, several dozen new non-governmental organisations have joined our platform, and together we will provide them with assistance,” adds Ģirts Slaviņš, head of Mobilly.
The campaign organisers invite people to visit the whitefriday.lv platform, where they can learn about the initiatives and donate a larger or smaller sum of money to a charitable or non-governmental organisation that works for the benefit of society. Their goals may differ, but they share one desire—to create a better Latvian society as a whole. On this day, everyone is also invited to use the Instagram app filters specially created for the campaign, which are available on Mobilly’s profile, to symbolically visualise the otherwise intangible results of their good deed, setting an example and thereby inspiring other fellow citizens to get involved as well.
More information about this year’s campaign and the organisations represented in it is available on the whitefriday.lv website. Donations can be made on the mobilly.lv and ziedot.lv platforms, using the Mobilly mobile app, as well as by supporting organisations individually and making direct donations.
