Laimonis Mieriņš. Color Games
The exhibition is a tribute by the museum to the artist Laimonis Mieriņš on his 95th birthday and is part of the dynamically changing exhibition 'Artefactum VI'.
The painter, abstract artist Laimonis Mieriņš (1929-2011) was born in Slampes parish, Tukums district. During World War II, he fled to Germany as a refugee, later living and working in Great Britain, teaching at Leeds Arts College. He is one of those Latvians who acquired artistic education abroad and integrated into the culture of his adopted land. In the English art scene, Laimonis Mieriņš was known as a British artist of Latvian descent.
The artist's abstract paintings are characterized by clearly defined geometric shapes and vibrant colors.
The Tukums Museum received 7 paintings as a gift from the artist's life partner Ilga Mieriņš (2021).
