LALIGABA 2024

In 2024, the "Latvian Literature Year Awards 2024" took place on April 30th at Āgenskalns Market. During the ceremony, the best books published in 2023 in seven categories were announced, along with the winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award and special prizes.

This year's motto is "LALIGABA unites", and this is the most significant event in the literary field in Latvia. It provides a professional evaluation of literary works and recognition to authors for their outstanding works of the year.

Winners in various categories include:

In the category "Best Poetry Work" – Marta Pujāta for the poetry collection "Lady in White Jeans", published by "Neputns".

"Best Prose Work" – Sven Kuzmins for the novel "Beauty and Turmoil", published by "Dienas Grāmata".

"Best Translation into Latvian" – Guntars Godiņš for compiling and translating the collection "Surrealism in Estonian Poetry", published by "Neputns".

"Best Prose Translation" – Māra Poļakova for translating the novel "Mova" by Belarusian fantasy author Viktar Marcinovič, published by "Prometejs".

"Best Original Literature Work for Children" – Kārlis Vērdiņš for the poetry collection "Jandāliņš", publisher "liels un mazs".

"Brightest Debut" – Linda Mence (Gabarajeva) for the poetry collection "Circles", published by "Neputns".

"Outstanding Contribution to Literary Science" – Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe for the monograph on Gunars Janovskis "Voices Over the Sea", published by "Dienas Grāmata".

This year, two special prizes were awarded: to poet and translator Contra (Marguss Konnula) for translating and promoting Latvian literature in Estonia, and to Ronalds Briedis for leading the cultural education program "Literary Academy" for 20 years.

The Lifetime Achievement Award for a significant contribution to Latvian literature was given to poet, prose writer, and translator Margita Gūtmane.

The Reader's Choice Award was given to Ruta Kārkliņa for the collection of stories "Elligant Secrets".
