Large-Format Cat Painting Exhibition

In the beautiful 2025 calendar created by the BUTS Training Centre, every cat you see is not merely a photograph, but a genuine painting created by artist Liene Gusta. Now you have the opportunity to view these works of art in person!

From 10 April, the large-format oil painting exhibition “Steps of Freedom” will be on display at Dobele Central Library, evoking the elegance and mystery of cats.

A travelling exhibition—a gift from BUTS to Latvia

The BUTS Training Centre has created this travelling exhibition to share the art with residents throughout Latvia.

This calendar is not only about works of art—it also draws attention to the lack of support for animal shelters. The BUTS Training Centre invited people to donate to animal-protection organisations, and donors received a calendar featuring 14 charming cat portraits. Many of these cats were once found on the streets or in shelters, but now they have real homes.

About artist Liene Gusta

Liene’s passion for painting animals began in 2022, when she painted wild birds for the BUTS calendar. Her works are distinguished by their realism and soulfulness, and the subsequent calendars followed the same approach, featuring forest inhabitants and domestic cats.

“The more I paint nature and animals, the more satisfaction I feel when, after applying the final brushstrokes, the animals and plants in the painting literally come to life—eyelashes, whiskers, fine hairs that shimmer in the sunlight, or the veins of a plant,” the artist says.
