Latvian Hospital Association to Request a Meeting with the Prime Minister
As the association’s head, Jevgēņijs Kalējs, points out, hospitals cannot agree to the conditions currently proposed by the service.
“Yes, the National Health Service is prepared to discuss changes to the conditions used to calculate hospital funding, but our patients cannot wait a year while the discussions take place. This is not about hospitals, but about people—patients who risk facing even greater difficulties in accessing outpatient services,” Jevgēņijs Kalējs emphasises.
Overall, funding for emergency medical hospitals outside Riga is being reduced by approximately EUR 1 million.
“We very much hope that the government will be able to find this funding without waiting for changes to the calculation formulas,” the association’s head says.
The Latvian Hospital Association has already reported that this year’s contracts for the provision of outpatient services by emergency medical hospitals outside Riga are considerably smaller than last year, and the hospitals are refusing to sign them for the time being.
Municipal leaders and the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments have also been informed of the situation and expressed concern.
