This year’s Latvian Cycling Festival in Olaine will delight visitors with even more exciting routes and an extensive entertainment programme
Next Sunday, 20 August, the major Latvian Cycling Festival will traditionally take place in Olaine. Alongside professional cyclists, all enthusiasts of this sport, as well as families with children from all over Latvia, are invited to take part in the event, enjoy the pleasure of spending time together, participate in festive outdoor activities and test their abilities on one of four exciting cycling routes. This year, too, the most successful and entertaining competitors and teams will receive valuable prizes from the event organisers and supporters.
“For the third consecutive year, the Latvian Cycling Festival in Olaine is set to attract a large number of participants in various age and qualification groups, becoming one of the most eagerly anticipated cycling events of the season in the vicinity of Riga. Moreover, this year we have prepared particularly well-designed and exciting courses, also including in the competition programme the Health Route, so popular among cyclists, which was created by combining last year’s MTB and Family routes. Continuing the successful Maratoni.lv event series, we are once again ready for spectacular starts, new records, impressive victories and positive emotions throughout the day,” says competition organiser Krista Rumbēna.
For licensed athletes, the 90-kilometre Sports Road Route, rich in challenges, will be the main attraction of the competition. Its participants will cover the route Olaine–Jaunmārupe–Mārupe–Tīraine–Sunīši–Olaine, completing three laps around the Mārupe area; individual and team riders will enjoy the highly popular People’s Road Route (45 km), whose course will be identical to that described above, except that instead of three laps, riders will complete only one; 16 km long and unifying Latvijas Maiznieks Health Route will bring together families, groups of friends and colleagues from towns and cities near and far across Latvia, allowing them to enjoy the charm of Olaine while competing for various honorary titles. Meanwhile, the exciting Children’s Ride (0.3–1 km) will wind through the picturesque Olaine Mežaparks and delight the youngest participants, aged up to 12. In addition, this season children will, for the first time, be offered a brand-new Dip Dap course, to be completed on a balance bike.
At the end of the day, participants in the Health Route of the Olaine Cycling Festival will be presented with awards in the following categories:
- Fastest male participant;
- Fastest female participant;
- Fastest male rider of the younger generation;
- Fastest female rider of the younger generation;
- Oldest male cyclist;
- Oldest female cyclist;
- Youngest male cyclist;
- Youngest female cyclist.
The winner of each category will receive pleasant and healthy prizes from the cycling marathon’s supporters. In addition, alongside the competition, visitors at the event venue will be able to enjoy various exciting entertainment activities throughout the day – an entertaining host and DJ, tastings, competitions and prizes from sponsors, the newly opened children’s playground, mobile trade stands, photo opportunities and a host of other active leisure opportunities for the whole family. In addition, to ensure the well-being of the competitors, thirst-quenching VENDEN natural mineral water will be available at several points along the route, while the technical condition of the bicycles will be monitored by FANS bicycle service.

When registering in advance, the entry fee for the Sports and People’s routes is EUR 20, for the Health Route – EUR 13, while participation in the Children’s Ride is free of charge. On the day of the competition, the entry fee for all routes will increase. The Latvian Cycling Festival in Olaine is organised by the sports events agency “Alpha Baltic Sport” in cooperation with the Olaine Municipality and the Latvian Cycling Federation.
