Flight in a Puff
The Jānis Rozenfelds and Rūdolfs Blaumanis Museum (Riga, Alberta Street 12-9) invites you to visit Daiga Krūze's painting exhibition 'Flight in a Puff' from October 4th to November 30th, 2023.
Daiga Krūze is one of the most versatile and vibrant Latvian painters, whose works have also gained international recognition. The artist's oeuvre is characterized by expressively vivid, mostly abstract compositions. The vibrant colors and the dynamic strokes of the brush evoke an emotional experience in the viewer.
About the exhibition 'Flight in a Puff,' the artist says: 'By applying black, I can breathe again, I allow it to enter. Then other colors come alive. What I'm doing is like a flight in a puff, like a blue painting at an exhibition. When I feel like a sprite, dressed in countryside fashion, I frolic in the fresh air. Like a sprite that no one sees, therefore I can be strange or free without hesitation.'
Daiga Krūze (1980) studied painting and restoration at the Latvian Academy of Arts (2004). She has held 30 solo exhibitions and participated in significant group exhibitions both in Latvia and around the world: in the traveling project 'Most Significant Latvian Contemporary Artists' in New York, Washington, Chicago, and Riga (2012); in the exhibition of nominees for the European Art Prize in Istanbul (2011). She has been nominated multiple times for the Vilhelms Purvītis Award (2008, 2012, 2016).
