To enhance the festive atmosphere of the holiday season, the Jelgava City Municipality is announcing the competition “Brightest Urban Environment Object in Jelgava 2020” from 1 to 20 December. Everyone is invited to take notice of brightly decorated company building façades, illuminated private houses and their surroundings, and the balconies and loggias of apartment buildings, which their owners have decorated with imagination and good taste. For the competition, you may nominate your own property, your neighbour’s, or any other object in the city that you have noticed and that has been decorated for Christmas and New Year.

The nominated objects will be judged in four categories: businesses, private houses, apartment-building balconies (loggias, windows), and the brightest city street.

Objects may be nominated for the competition at the Jelgava City Municipality Customer Service Centre, Lielā iela 11, by calling 63005522 or 63005558, or by email at prese@dome.jelgava.lv. When nominating an object, the category, the object’s address, the owner’s name, and the nominator’s first name, surname, and telephone number must be provided. When nominating an object electronically, it is advisable to attach a photograph of the illuminated object.

The competition will be held for the sixteenth time, and this year, too, the objects will be assessed for their suitability to festive traditions and the urban environment, as well as the tasteful nature of their design. The winners of the previous two years will not be assessed in the competition. The winners will be honoured in January 2021 and will be informed personally about the closing event.

The judging commission will be headed by Jurijs Strods, Deputy Chair of the Jelgava City Council for Economic Affairs. The commission will include the Head of the Construction Authority; the Deputy Chief Architect and Head of the Architecture and Urban Environment Sector, Zeltīte Bīmane; the Chief Artist of the Construction Authority, Zane Vēvere; the City Landscape Architect of the Construction Authority, Andrejs Lomakins; the Chief Communications and Media Relations Specialist of the Public Relations Department, Līga Klismeta; and the Public Relations Specialist of the municipal institution “Pilsētsaimniecība”, Kristīne Lazdiņa.
