Lielā Talka Announces Video Competition for Schoolchildren
At the end of 2020, the nationwide movements “Lielā Talka” and “World Cleanup Day” are organising a competition for students in grades 5–12 at Latvian schools
“A Clean Environment – An Integral Part of Latvia for Me and My Peers”
Competition Regulations
Show us your creativity and that of your peers, and become the author of a television commercial!
Over the past decade, it has been young people who have emphasised the importance of preserving a clean and beautiful world for future generations. To achieve this goal, we must think not only about removing waste from the environment and dealing with the consequences, but also go one step further and look to the future – raising environmental issues in society and highlighting the need to care for the environment.
Ask them what kind of world we will live in a few decades from now! Ask you, young person! You certainly have ideas about how to encourage your friends and classmates to care for the environment and come up with innovative and interesting ideas. And what if you were the author of a commercial? Take part in the competition and become one of the ambassadors of Lielā Talka 2021 and a carrier of ideas for creating a green, clean Latvia and world!
PARTICIPANTS
Students in grades 5–12 at general education and special education institutions, participating individually or in teams.
IMPLEMENTATION PERIOD
From 17 December 2020 to 15 March 2021.
TASK
We would like you to film a video clip, either individually or together with like-minded peers, highlighting the need to care for the environment so that it can be preserved for future generations. The message expressed in the video clip must fit within 80 seconds, as the project submitted by the most creative authors will become part of the “Lielā Talka 2021” information campaign: both as an advertisement on the TV3 channel and as part of a social media campaign in anticipation of next year’s Lielā Talka day.
Assess the message you plan to film so that it is clear and engaging, while at the same time allowing your creativity free rein.
Together with the video clip, submit information about the authors: a brief description and contact details (email address and telephone number), as well as the name of the school.
FORMAT
A horizontally filmed video no more than 80 seconds long.
SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
The completed project must be sent by 15 March 2021 to the email address (gita.sauka@onecom-latvia.com).
ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS
· By 25 March 2021, the jury will select one creative author in each of the following regions: Kurzeme, Latgale, Vidzeme, Zemgale and Riga.
· The authors of the five best works will be invited to the “Lielā Talka 2021” preparatory event in Riga and, from 1 April, will become part of Lielā Talka’s information campaign, while the best work in the competition will become a television commercial on the TV3 channel.
The list of the winning regional teams will be published on the Lielā Talka website www.talkas.lv under Home.

Lielā Talka is Latvia’s largest non-governmental movement, based on voluntary participation in cleaning up, restoring and improving the environment, creating solidarity, positivity and a sense of a job well done. In 2019, as it began its second decade, it embarked on a new approach to environmental thinking, encouraging people more broadly to think and act in order to eliminate the causes—not merely the consequences—of environmental pollution, and to restore our understanding of the interaction between people and nature.
The Lielā Talka movement is based on intelligently organised public involvement, including all municipalities, schools, business partners, the media, diaspora organisations and, of course, most importantly—every willing volunteer! Since its inception, Lielā Talka has been led by the inspiring and ever-ideas-rich Vita Jaunzeme.
