The Easter spirit in Daugavpils will continue with the “Touch of Art” campaign

From 16 to 25 April, a creative campaign, “Touch of Art”, will take place in Unity Square. As part of the campaign, Daugavpils artists will transform the Easter eggs in the square into works of art, creating a unique Easter display.

As a significant proportion of the city’s residents are Orthodox Christians and Old Believers, who will celebrate Easter on 2 May, the leadership of the Daugavpils City Council proposed keeping the Easter display created in the city in place for longer, thus creating a unique gift for residents of the city’s neighbourhoods.

At the end of this week—on 16 and 17 April, from 10:00 to 17:00—as part of the “Touch of Art” campaign, Daugavpils artists will transform the Easter eggs installed in Unity Square into works of art. In case of unsuitable weather conditions, the schedule may change. Over the course of two days, residents and visitors of Daugavpils will have the opportunity to watch the artists at work. Daugavpils artists—U. Gura, A. Shandurov, K. Shinkovskaya, N. Marinoha, O. Fishere, J. Kulgayeva,  A. Kulgayeva, N. Kryukova, local graffiti artists, musicians A. Slobozhanin, J. Bogdanov, A. Zeiza and DJ G. Preitags, actors from the Daugavpils Theatre—E. Vilumovs, Z. Mankopa and M. Blakunovs, A. Luksha, head of “STOPTIME Dance Studio”, and other well-known Daugavpils residents will demonstrate their skills in painting Easter eggs as part of the creative campaign.

The painted Easter eggs will be on display in Unity Square until 25 April, after which they will be moved to the city’s neighbourhoods. As Orthodox Christians and Old Believers will celebrate Easter this year on 2 May—one month later than Catholics and Lutherans—the “Touch of Art” campaign will allow the Easter spirit to continue in Daugavpils.
