SIA “Liepājas enerģija” has announced a price survey entitled “Supply of energy wood chips during the 2021/2022 heating season”. The company invites wood-chip suppliers to submit their offers by 11:00 a.m. on 28 April.

The company plans to conclude contracts with several suppliers for the purchase of energy wood chips in order to reduce various risks and promote competition. In addition to the contracts concluded, the company plans to participate in the auctions of the energy resources exchange “Baltpool”. The various cooperation models ensure greater security in the supply processes.

The company’s main priority is to ensure uninterrupted heat-supply services at a competitive price. Additional information about the price survey and the regulations is available on the company’s website at www.liepajasenergija.lv under “Procurement”.

By using wood chips—a climate-friendly fuel obtained here in Latvia—“Liepājas enerģija” replaces approximately 22 million normal cubic metres of imported natural gas annually. In 2009, the company made a strategic decision to pursue its development by giving preference to a renewable energy resource, and at the end of 2012 it began producing heat from wood chips. In 2020, biomass accounted for 75% of the total heat production.

Heat-supply services in Liepāja are provided to 1,114 buildings: 620 apartment buildings, 229 private houses, 156 commercial premises and 109 state and municipal buildings (data as at 31 December 2020). Last year, the company connected 48 new customers to the district heating service, with a total load of 5.32 MW.
