The CSDD Young Road Users’ Forum took place in Limbaži

The “Spicie 1” team from Baumaņu Kārlis Viļķene Primary School wins the CSDD young cyclists’ competition in Limbaži

On 21 May, the first-round stage of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition took place in Limbaži. The highest score and victory in fierce competition were achieved by the “Spicie 1” team from Baumaņu Kārlis Viļķene Primary School. The team consisted of Krista Elza Čuličoka, Betija Ķezbere, Laura Melisa Kraujiņa, Elvis Gūtmanis, Valts Maurītis, Ralfs Zaks and teacher Ilva Zvirgzdiņa.

The twenty-sixth first-round stage of the CSDD young cyclists’ competition, the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”, held in Limbaži, was attended by eleven teams from the city of Limbaži and Limbaži and Salacgrīva municipalities. During the competition, the students demonstrated their theoretical knowledge of road traffic regulations, first aid and bicycle construction, and also had to complete rides on two courses.

In the overall standings, the “Spicie 1” team from Baumaņu Kārlis Viļķene Primary School scored 655 points and placed first. As the 26th team, it advances to the second round, which will take place from 5 to 6 June. The third round, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3 to 6 September. Jānis Kaurātis proved to be the strongest competitor in the individual event.

2nd place: “Pāle 1” team from Pāle Primary School; 608 points;

3rd place: “Lādezers” team from Lādezers Primary School; 525 points;

4th place: “Spicie 4” team from Baumaņu Kārlis Viļķene Primary School; 522 points;

5th place: “Spicie 2” team from Baumaņu Kārlis Viļķene Primary School; 498 points;

6th place: “Pāle 2” team from Pāle Primary School; 487 points;

7th place: “Spicie 3” team from Baumaņu Kārlis Viļķene Primary School; 456 points;

8th place: “Ceļa vilki” team from Krišjānis Valdemārs Ainaži Primary School; 446 points;

9th place: “Velobērni” team from Limbaži Secondary School No. 3; 435 points;

10th place: “Ritenīši” team from Krišjānis Valdemārs Ainaži Primary School; 409 points;

11th place: “Velomuižnieki” team from Vidriži Primary School; 377 points.

For 22 years, the CSDD has organised the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia in order to raise young road users’ interest in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round being held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:

• Monday, 25 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Rēzekne Secondary School No. 5; schools from the city of Rēzekne and Viļāni and Rēzekne municipalities are invited to participate;

• Tuesday, 26 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Ludza Recreation Park; school teams from Kārsava, Ludza, Zilupe and Cibla municipalities are invited to participate;

• Wednesday, 27 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Gulbene City Stadium; school teams from the city and municipality of Gulbene are invited to participate.

The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” – the Latvian final – is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3 to 6 September and will be attended by the winning team of the Latvian final.

To participate in the competition, students must have been born between 2003 and 2005, form a six-person team – three girls and three boys – come up with a team name and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation in the competition must be approved by a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the specific team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults – teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by the CSDD. In developing the competition content, the CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been the CSDD’s educational-project partner for many years.
