Annual Jūrmala Running Festival spectacularly held at Majori Beach
At 10:00, the youngest competitors were the first to gather determinedly at the starting line, opening the event and completing the 0.5–1 km Children’s Run. Participants in the first stage of the Latvian Nordic Walking Championship also took their places at the start and set off at full speed on the 21 km route along the sea. This year, Linda Kubiloviča won the title of fastest female Nordic walker, while Feokists Pušņakovs proved fastest among the men. After the first competitions had been completed, the 5 km and 10 km Nordic walking races also began, with Dmitrijs Dubrovskis and Dace Zīle winning the 5 km race, and Jurijs Misjuns and Baiba Bolgzda taking victory in the 10 km race.
As participants gathered in the afternoon in particularly large numbers for the widely popular 5 km and 10 km running races, the competition for the title of fastest runner began at 14:00. This year’s leaders in the 10 km race were Petras Pranckūnas and Ilona Marhele, while Dmitrijs Jurkevičš and Jeļena Ābele were the first to finish the 5 km race, confidently outpacing the other competitors. Before the start of the 5 km Nordic walking race, words of encouragement were offered to those present by Gatis Truksnis, Chairman of the Jūrmala City Council, who subsequently took part in the race himself. At the finish, every “Jūrmala Running Festival” participant received a wooden commemorative medal, ensuring that the victories deservedly won in the competition would be remembered for a long time.
Alongside the running and Nordic walking races, visitors could enjoy a variety of exciting entertainment activities throughout the day, including face painting, basketball free throws, active sports games at the NRF stand, as well as a Winnie-the-Pooh game and an attraction game involving signals, attracting the youngest visitors. DJ Kārlis and the entertaining event host Ivars Bācis helped maintain a positive mood throughout the day.
