Mārīte Seile Takes Over from Mārcis Auziņš
Berkeley has ranked among the TOP 5 universities in the world since the academic ranking was established in 2003, and until autumn Mārcis Auziņš will focus on quantum physics there. “Every professor dreams of devoting himself specifically to research, and now I will have this opportunity for a while,” Auziņš said before his departure, excited about this unique opportunity. “I am confident that the jury’s work will also be in good hands, as I cannot imagine a more suitable candidate than Mārīte Seile,” M. Auziņš acknowledged.
“It is a great honour for me to take over the leadership of the Samsung School for the Future jury from Professor Auziņš,” Mārīte Seile told 60 teachers from across Latvia. “I have been familiar with this programme from previous years and am very pleased about the initiative of businesses to invest specifically in education,” Seile emphasised.
As part of the Samsung School for the Future programme, 60 educators from 15 Latvian schools spend four months learning, free of charge, skills and knowledge useful in the modern learning process. These include the meaningful use of technology in teaching, change management, discussion skills, team building, and many other topics that will help teachers improve the learning process.
In the latest training module, Zuarguss introduced teachers to the importance of emotional intelligence, while psychotherapist Aina Poiša spoke about ways to find self-motivation and cope with unconventional situations. Krista Vāvere’s practical public-speaking classes will certainly prove useful to the teachers, as on 6 May ten finalist teams will take the stage to present their school’s change project to the jury and compete for the main prize—€10,000 worth of the latest Samsung technologies.
