This past Saturday, July 13, Ozo Golf Club hosted for the second consecutive year the MercedesTrophy golf tournament organized by VEHO, with a large number of loyal customers and partners of the Mercedes-Benz brand, including well-known athletes, diplomats, and entrepreneurs. At the end of the active day, the tournament champion with 75 successful shots was awarded to Latvian national ice hockey team captain Kaspars Daugaviņš, while singer Linda Leen entertained the event guests with her musical performance.
The MercedesTrophy golf tournament, now an annual tradition, gathered over 60 participants throughout the day, including Ģirts Mauriņš, Chairman of the Board of Vēnu Center "Flebomedika", Uldis Dzenis, founder and board member of Tilde, entrepreneur Vitalijs Gavrilovs with his wife Lidija, Toms Auškāps, Communication and Development Director of "A/S Balticovo", Krišs Tūns, Chairman of the Board of "Baltic XL", TV and radio personality Kristaps Tālbergs, Latvian national ice hockey team captain Kaspars Daugaviņš, former goalkeeper and coach Edgars Masaļskis, assistant coach Lauris Dārziņš, socialite Liene Stūraine, Signe Jantone, General Secretary of the party "VIENOTĪBA", Māris Simanovičs, Chairman of the Board of the company group "Eco Baltia", and many other golf enthusiasts known in the society.
MercedesTrophy is an amateur golf tournament series held worldwide since 1991. Every year, around 60 thousand golf enthusiasts, who are also Mercedes-Benz car owners, participate in these game tournaments in 60 countries worldwide. This month, the regional MercedesTrophy golf tournament is traditionally held throughout the Baltics, and the top 15 players from each country will head to the regional final tournament in Klaipėda on August 17. In contrast, the best Baltic champions will earn a ticket to the decisive Grand Finale tournament scheduled for September in the city of Stuttgart, Germany. Participants of the grand final tournament will have a unique opportunity to showcase their golf skills on an international scale, competing with leading players from various countries within the Mercedes-Benz customer circle.
“Mercedes-Benz brand globally symbolizes sustainable prestige, and golf is an authentic part of this lifestyle. That's why it has always been one of our main cornerstones, supporting and organizing sports events at local and international levels. The MercedesTrophy golf tournament ranks among the most important events of the year for us, where participants have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest range of brand-new cars, as well as enjoy an active lifestyle in an informal atmosphere. To promote the involvement of the younger generation in golf, and to make this sport more relevant among women, in the 2024 season, we continue our active cooperation with both Ozo Golf Club and the Latvian Women's Golf Club, being long-time supporters of the Latvian junior golf tour,” commented Dmitrijs Zeļeņins, Managing Director of the company “SIA Veho”, authorized representative of Mercedes-Benz Latvia.
“The success of this tournament was definitely based on the excellent atmosphere that we felt with the team from the first minutes of the game; moreover, surpassing oneself is always a double joy. Many thanks to my round colleagues, Ozo Golf Club, and VEHO for the great tournament that allowed me to play my best round ever. I became passionate about golf 12 years ago when I was still living in America to unwind from the daily routine of hockey, and now I enjoy playing it in my free time with my family both here in Latvia and while traveling the world. Just like Mercedes cars - our whole family are big fans of this brand, and it holds sentimental value as Mercedes was the first car I sat behind the wheel of when I was a little boy. It is still very challenging to surpass its comfort and quality,” commented tournament winner Kaspars Daugaviņš.
“Although I almost missed today's tournament and initially got a little anxious about the expected weather conditions, overall, I consider my performance as very successful. I hadn't played golf for some time, but after the first successful shot, I felt the energy in me and savored the day to the fullest. Since the Mercedes brand revolves around quality, beauty, and excellence, this tournament is undoubtedly one of the best-organized events where everything was taken care of. Golf is a separate world, and I greatly enjoy the etiquette of this game, especially when traveling. Golf players around the world are always very open and friendly, which is also a great way to stay active at any age. Speaking of Mercedes, I have had this brand's cars in my life for the past 20 years, and I like that they always surprise with new design solutions and excellent quality. As a coupe enthusiast, I eagerly await the brand's new electric models,” added socialite Liene Stūraine.
“In my opinion, there are no bad days in golf. Regardless of the result, it is always a great time spent with friends in nature and fresh air, where you can clear your mind of all the unnecessary and simply enjoy. I want to express my deep gratitude to VEHO for organizing an event at such a high level, and to the Ozoliņš family for the consistently excellent quality of the golf course and the atmosphere that prevails there. It was precisely last year's MercedesTrophy golf tournament that prompted us to purchase a Mercedes bus for work needs, so that our driver and staff can now comfortably, safely, and comfortably travel across Latvia on their daily trips,” concluded Ģirts Mauriņš, Chairman of the Board of Vēnu Center "Flebomedika".
