“There, in the enchanting light, everything glitters and gleams...”, Rainis, “Antiquity”

On 16 May, the international event “Museum Night” will take place, and in Latvia it will be held under the sign of Rainis and Aspazija’s 150th anniversaries. Bauska Castle Museum, which has actively participated in this event for the twelfth year, has chosen as its motto the lines from Rainis’s poem “Antiquity”: “There, in the enchanting light, everything glitters and gleams...”, which at 23:30 will come to life in the castle courtyard in Pecolli’s laser-beam night poetry.

From 19:00, the exhibitions on the history and interiors of Bauska Castle will be open for viewing, as will the exhibitions “Clothing and Jewellery in the Duchy of Courland, 1562–1620”, “Bauska Castle—A Military Fortification”, an exhibition of marionettes from the Latvian Puppet Theatre, and Jānis Gunārs Kalnmalis’s painting exhibition “European Views”. Visitors will be able to view the ruins of the Livonian Order castle, climb the central tower until 22:00, admire the panorama of Bauska, and see for themselves the beauty that surrounds us.

Admission to the castle and the castle ruins courtyard will close at 23:00 so that spectators can gather in the castle courtyard, where at 23:30 they will be able to watch the laser-beam performance “There, in the enchanting light, everything glitters and gleams...”.
