Come to the Theatre Festival!

Yesterday I saw a white rabbit running in Valmiera, followed by a girl. They both ran into Viestura Secondary School. Today I open the hall door—the rabbit is sitting there, but the girl is nowhere to be seen. Perhaps she ran off to prepare for the theatre festival?

23 April is almost here, and the Latvian Children’s and Youth Theatre Festival “.. and I will go and go!”, organised by Valmiera Viesturs Secondary School and the National Centre for Education, is already waving hello. This is a special year in which the groups have worked remotely, so the festival is special too—rather than performances, it features video entries entitled “An Event in My Life”. Despite the unusual circumstances (or perhaps thanks to them), the festival participants represent all the regions of our beautiful and diverse Latvia—they have travelled virtually to the festival from  Aizkraukle, Madona, Ikšķile, Jaunogre, Jūrmala, Limbaži, Liepāja, Gulbene, Pumpuri, Ozolnieki, Talsi, Saldus, Pastende, Ranka, Aduliena, Ķekava, Indra, Krāslava, Dobele and Riga. Of course, the Viesturs school students themselves are also taking part, offering three works to watch: the creative experiment “Uninvited Guests”, A. Kronenberg’s “Sprunguļmuiža” and J. Webster’s “Daddy-Long-Legs”.

All 50 works submitted to the festival will be available to watch and vote for on 23 and 24 April on the Valmiera Viesturs Secondary School website, viesturi.edu.lv.
