World Gathering of Valka People to Take Place in Valka Next Year

After a five-year break, the World Gathering of Valka People will take place on a grand scale in Valka next year. It is planned that in 2020, people from Valka from all the continents of the world will meet on 7–8 August, when the city will also extensively celebrate the 100th anniversary of Valka Jānis Cimze Gymnasium.

“Five years have passed since the previous gathering. During this time, many changes have taken place in Valka Municipality, most of them for the better. Therefore, we want to show this to those people who have an emotional connection with Valka Municipality and, of course, a very important part of such an event is also meeting one another. Old friends and acquaintances sharing memories—and at the same time, these are celebrations both for those who currently live among us and for those who are far away from Valka Municipality. We will try to shape the programme in such a way as to listen to people’s recommendations and opinions, because sometimes, from the outside, there are things that are more easily seen,” comments Vents Armands Krauklis, Chairman of the Valka Municipality Council.

The first World Gathering of Valka People took place in 2003, while the most recent event was held in 2015, when Valka Jānis Cimze Gymnasium celebrated its 95th anniversary.
