From 1 March, employees will no longer need a vaccination or recovery certificate

After the end of the state of emergency—from 1 March onward— a vaccination or recovery certificate will no longer be required for an employee to perform their duties. However, in certain sectors where work involves close contact with people, potentially resulting in serious Covid-19 outbreaks, and taking into account that these employees provide essential services to the public whose continuity is important, the requirement to have a certificate will remain mandatory for another month.
This is provided for by amendments to the Cabinet Regulation “Epidemiological Safety Measures to Limit the Spread of Covid-19 Infection”, adopted at a government meeting on Tuesday, 15 February.
“The time has come to lift the vaccination requirement for employees, particularly in the private sector. Therefore, starting on 1 March, the majority of employers will be able to employ people even if they do not have a vaccination or recovery certificate. Consequently, this requirement no longer needs to be included in job advertisements either. Circumstances in Latvia have changed significantly, and such requirements do not exist in Lithuania or Estonia either. It is important that these people will now provide additional labour for the Latvian economy, which is very much needed. In general, the state should interfere as little as possible in regulating the private sector,” believes Minister of Welfare Gatis Eglītis.
Until 1 April, a vaccination or recovery certificate will remain a requirement for work in educational institutions, long-term social care centres and medical institutions. It will also be required for employees who interact with clients in the public sector and in places where the use of Covid-19 certificates is mandated. In all other cases, the employer will determine whether a certificate is required.
