Entry requirements for arrivals in Latvia from abroad to be eased as of 16 June
On 15 June, the Cabinet approved amendments proposed by the Ministry of Transport to Cabinet Regulation No. 360, Epidemiological Safety Measures for the Containment of the Spread of COVID-19 Infection, which abolish a number of requirements for entering Latvia if a person can prove, using a digital certificate, that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have recovered from it within the past six months.
“I am pleased that we have managed to simplify the travel requirements and align them with the recommendations of the Council of the European Union. Latvia’s decision to allow non-essential travel for vaccinated persons is consistent with the regulations of other European countries. The epidemiological situation in the European Union is improving, allowing us to review the restrictions established to date. Coordinated and unified European Union action to enable free travel will allow both residents to plan their summer holidays and the international passenger transport sector to return to its normal working rhythm,” explains Minister of Transport Tālis Linkaits.
The amendments also stipulate that children under 12 years of age entering Latvia do not have to present a negative test. As regards self-isolation, the same conditions will apply to them as to their companions: if the person accompanying the child is not required to self-isolate, the child will not have to do so either. However, for 10 days after entering Latvia, these children will not be allowed to interact with persons outside their household, attend public events or children’s groups, go to a camp, school or kindergarten, or use public transport.
For vaccinated and recovered persons, the ban on non-essential travel to Latvia, the requirement to take a test before and after travel, and the self-isolation requirement remain in force only when travelling from countries where there is an especially high risk to public health (“Emergency brake” regulation).
