Construction of the promenade on the banks of the Daugava is under way

The reconstruction of Bruģu Street is under way in the section from 18 November Street to Ūdensvada Street, as is the reconstruction of Dzirnavu Street in the section from Vidus Street to Bruģa Street in the Gajoks industrial zone; a promenade is being built in this area.

Work began in autumn 2018 and must be completed by 27 December 2019.
The value of the construction contract is EUR 2,297,780.64 excluding VAT.
Bruģu Street is a gravel-surfaced road along the banks of the Daugava River with poorly developed infrastructure: there is no lighting network, the water-supply network is in critical technical condition, there is no domestic wastewater or stormwater drainage system, no pedestrian pavement, no cycle path, and pedestrian safety along the Daugava River is poor. Trees and shrubs along the roadside are damaging the structures of the hydraulic engineering facility, do not ensure sufficient visibility, and detract from the attractiveness of the urban environment. During the reconstruction of the road, a retaining wall must be built and the slope reinforced with boulders, thereby ensuring the stability of the road structure. Reinforcing the slope will improve the technical condition of the road both in terms of structural strength and traffic safety. The slope will be separated from the road by a railing. Since the slope is located directly on the riverside, this area will be available for lease to tourism service providers, thereby promoting the development of the Daugava riverbank and attracting private investment.
As part of the project, a new road pavement structure will be constructed from asphalt layers, crushed-stone mixture layers, and a drainage layer; the stormwater drainage and lighting networks will be reconstructed; a section of the domestic wastewater network will be reconstructed; pavements and public parking spaces will be built; and a pedestrian/cycle path will also be constructed.
The total project costs amount to EUR 5,729,116.34, including:
Daugavpils city share – the total amount is EUR 3,648,307.42: ERDF funding of 85% – EUR 3,050,763.57; state budget grant of 4.5% – EUR 161,511.01; Daugavpils City Council co-financing of 10.5% – EUR 376,859.03; and ineligible costs – EUR 59,173.81.
Daugavpils Municipality share – EUR 2,080,808.92: ERDF funding of 74.74% – EUR 1,554,284.05; state budget grant of 3.80% – EUR 79,107.09; Daugavpils Municipality Council co-financing of 8.88% – EUR 184,583.21; private eligible costs of 12.58% – EUR 261,713.69; and ineligible costs – EUR 1,120.88.
