Nominees for “Apes Municipality Sports Laureate 2018” determined

On 18 January, the nominees for “Apes Municipality Sports Laureate 2018” were determined in eleven categories at the Ape Municipality Council.

The submitted applications were evaluated by a commission formed by the Ape Municipality Council: Juris Ozoliņš, the municipality’s sports coordinator, Raivis Kalniņš, sports coordinator in Gaujiena, Armands Būda, sports coordinator in Vireši, Astrīda Harju, deputy chairwoman, and Viesturs Dandens, executive director. 

The nominees for “Apes Municipality Sports Laureate 2018” are: 

Male or female athlete in team sports Kārlis Pops (floorball), Oskars Laucis (football) 

Male athlete in individual sports Austris Ints Silaunieks (arm wrestling), Jānis Kūms (orienteering), Renārs Karro (rowing)

Female athlete in individual sports Jūlija Katrīna Celenberga (judo) 

Best sports team (including relay teams, etc.) Orienteering relay team, Ape town women’s volleyball team, Dāvis Ozoliņš Ape Secondary School youth volleyball team, “Gaujiena” volleyball team 

Male athlete, female athlete or crew in technical sports (cycling, motorcycling, motor racing, etc.) Karīna Harkina (cycling marathon), Jānis and Pēteris Jegorovi (motocross), Renārs Karro (Golden Moped), Toms Leitis (Golden Moped), Genadijs Fedorenko/ Didzis Leoskis (motor sport) 

Young athlete Uvis Sproģis (orienteering), Kristers Lārmanis (orienteering), Austris Kalniņš (orienteering), Martins Līvs (judo, athletics), Ginters Ķelps (athletics), Edgars Mucenieks (ice hockey) 

Young female athlete Marta Kalniņa (orienteering) 

Veteran athlete Māris Vabulnieks (orienteering), Ilgonis Karro (Golden Moped), Sandis Andersons (powerlifting) 

Best coach, physical education teacher Raivis Kalniņš (orienteering) 

Sports event of the year World Snow Day on 25 February in Gaujiena, the “Lai ripo” cycling ride on 31 August in Gaujiena, the “Vaidavas Cup” on 20 May in Ape, the Vivus MTB cycling marathon on 8 September in Ape 

Sports activist, supporter or sponsor – Sanita Sproģe (sports activist and supporter), Oskars Laucis (involved in the sports life of Gaujiena Parish), the Karro family (strong motorcyclists in Latvia and abroad), Jānis Ērmanis (developer of novuss in Ape and Ape Municipality, organiser of novuss competitions), the 4×4 Ape TEAM, Gvido Semjonovs (organiser of open ice-fishing competitions in Ape). 

This time, everyone was invited to nominate candidates for the “Apes Municipality Sports Laureate 2018” categories. The response was strong, with 38 nomination letters received. From among the nominated candidates, the commission determined by secret ballot which athletes would receive the main awards; the results will be announced on 23 February at a solemn awards ceremony at the Ape People’s House. 

The municipality expresses its great gratitude to residents for their strong response in sharing information about the best athletes of Ape Municipality, their outstanding achievements and results in sports competitions at municipal, national and international level. 

We invite athletes, fans and supporters to attend the event “Apes Municipality Sports Laureate 2018” at the Ape People’s House on 23 February at 6:00 p.m., to honour the athletes and sports activists of Ape Municipality.
