“On the Way to the Big Stage”
Registration is now open for the major regional children’s and youth vocal competition “On the Way to the Big Stage.” The project will provide children and young people from all over Latvia with a unique opportunity not only to showcase their talent, but also to compete for the chance to perform alongside a symphony orchestra at a grand finale concert.
The aim of the “On the Way to the Big Stage” competition is to discover outstanding talent in Latvia’s regions by providing children and young people aged 7 to 18 with a professional platform for self-expression. The project’s vision is to promote cultural life outside the capital, inspiring young artists and teachers.
Regional competitions will take place in five cities
The competition will take place in five cities, where the participants’ performances will be evaluated by a professional jury comprising three experienced vocal teachers, vocalists and musicians.
- Mārupe: 21–22 February (Mārupe Music and Art School)
- Saulkrasti: 14–15 March (Saulkrasti Cultural Centre “Zvejniekciems”)
- Sigulda: 28–29 March (“Baltais flīģelis” Art School)
- Daugavpils: 11–12 April (“Vienības nams”)
- Liepāja: 18–19 April (BJC “Vaduguns”)
A grand finale with a symphony orchestra
This competition stands out because of its special grand prize. After all the regional rounds have been evaluated, 12 Grand Prix winners will be selected. On 5 June, these young talents will take to a grand stage in front of thousands of spectators to give a concert together with a symphony orchestra. In this way, they will make their way “to the big stage,” going through all the stages of preparation undertaken by professional musicians and also receiving a fee for the concert.
The venue for the finale concert is currently being kept secret, promising the participants an unforgettable surprise.”
“The aim of the competition is to build a bridge between the competition venues and the world of “great music.” We want to support not only those who are already actively performing in concerts, but also children who may currently lack the resources to reach the big stages and be noticed,” the competition organizers emphasize.”
