Opening of the Tukums Artists’ Group Exhibition

On 26 April at 12:00 p.m., the opening of the Tukums Artists’ Group spring exhibition will take place at the Durvis Art Gallery. The exhibition will be open to visitors from 23 April to 27 May.

The annual spring exhibition of the Tukums Artists’ Group is an important event in the cultural life of Tukums, bringing together representatives of different generations and artistic disciplines. This year, 30 artists are participating in the exhibition, representing painting, graphic art, ceramics, photography, computer graphics, textiles and design. Over the past year, the group’s members have actively participated in both solo exhibitions and joint initiatives, including the event “Artists’ Street”, which has already become a tradition.

The Tukums Artists’ Group was founded in 1983 and remains active today, bringing together around 40 members united by their connection with Tukums and their desire to engage with society through art.

As the artists themselves emphasise: “Art speaks to people—especially at a time when the world is experiencing changes and tensions that affect us as well. In such circumstances, artists continue to create, seeking ways to express what they have experienced, ask questions and encourage reflection. In today’s globalised world, events are no longer distant—they enter our everyday lives, affecting our feelings, perceptions and thinking. Artists often respond to this reality intuitively or consciously, creating works that are simultaneously personal and socially significant.”

The exhibition encourages viewers to explore the meaning of art: is creative work a necessity for self-expression, or does each work also contain a message for the viewer? Every work of art speaks, and each viewer finds their own meaning in it.
