Remote issuance of sickness certificates for Covid-19 contact persons and people with respiratory symptoms extended

In view of the continuing risks of the spread of Covid-19 infection, the current procedure for issuing sickness certificates to Covid-19 contact persons and residents with symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections is planned to remain in effect until the end of the year, the government decided today, 29 June.

The decision provides that a doctor may issue a sickness certificate remotely:

  • From the first day of illness in cases where a child or adult develops symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection. In such cases, the sickness certificate is issued for up to three days, and the attending physician decides whether a Covid-19 test is necessary and determines the further course of treatment;
  • Contact persons of people infected with Covid-19, based on information provided by an epidemiologist from the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

This procedure prevents the potential spread of the Covid-19 virus at an early stage, when a person has developed symptoms but infection with Covid-19 has not yet been confirmed.
